Downtown Association Mini Scrape Urban Picnic St. Catharines - July 12, 2003 |
The St. Catharines Downtown Association teamed up with Scrape by the Lake, Rollerz Only CC, Tantrum Records and SUD Skates to put on a downtown street festival, or as we called it - an urban picnic. A lowrider, custom and vintage carshow combined with skateboarding, a $1000 cash hop-off, DJ's, vintage motorcycles, sidewalk sales and restaurant/bar specials should have made for an amazing day! Unfortunately, it rained on and off all day! Even still, about a 100 vehicles turned out and made the best of it. Car clubs such as Rollerz Only, Sinful Creations, Rydaz4Life, Costly Obsessions, SLC and more, turned out to support the 1st ever event. Highlites included BenG's 1977 Single Pump Cadillac taking out all comers in the Hop-Off and winning a cool grand cash! Big thanks goes out to all that participated, volunteered and supported the event - see you all next year! |

SUD Skates put on the skate part of the event, which saw all proceeds donated towards the St. Catharines Skatepark Committee's fundraising towards the permanent skatepark. A 5' x 20' wide mini-ramp was rented from Destiny Promotions, along with a street area supplied by SUD's. Two demo's took place, along with a contest to follow, sponsored by Etnies footwear. Unfortunately, the rain killed any chance for the comp, so the prizes were given away by a draw. Big thanks to SUD Skates, Destiny Ramps, and Etnies for all the support! |
