I was in LA for work, so I snuck away and headed down to San Diego for the Lowrider Magazine Scrapin Tour stop at Qualcom Stadium. Little did I know the "boycott" was back on, and almost all of the California clubs boycotted the event. There were still alot of sick rides, and even some newly finished magazine-to-be cars, and the crowd was still as big as normal....but it just wasn't a typical Lowrider Mag show. As for the boycott, apparently over registration fee increases (by $5) and the apparent "selling out of the mag to corporate America", too many wheel adds, not enough feature cars, etc, etc....all I know is that Lowrider mag has always been heavy on adds, and light on cars. Either way, there are so many good shows in Cali, that they can easily boycott the Go-Lo shows.....for us, the regional Go-Lo shows are all we have....if we boycott, we are left with Import shows. Apparently, they're starting up a new mag called "BLVD" that will take it back to the streets, along with some kick-ass shows. Who knows, but until there's an alternative for us, we'll continue to go to the Go-Lo shows. |
